Central Blood Bank conducts ‘mock evacuation’ for emergency preparedness

The Ministry of Health announced that the Central Blood Bank successfully conducted a mock evacuation exercise as part of the emergency plan approved by the Blood Transfusion Services Department. This exercise is part of routine preventive measures aimed at improving preparedness and ensuring the readiness of teams to respond to any emergencies that may threaten the safety of the facility or its workers.

The Director of the Blood Transfusion Services Department, Dr. Reem Al-Radwan, stated in a press release on Thursday that the exercise was carried out in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, specifically the General Directorate of Civil Defense, the General Department of Traffic, and the Medical Emergency Department. She emphasized the commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and security.

Dr. Al-Radwan noted that the exercise was preceded by intensive training for employees on rapid evacuation procedures and emergency response to ensure the safety of both donors and staff, as well as to safeguard the vital blood supply. This initiative reflects the ministry’s dedication to enhancing the readiness of all facilities to confront emergencies and ensure an effective and rapid response.

During the exercise, the team simulated an emergency evacuation scenario involving a three-storey building. Employees successfully evacuated 379 individuals in a remarkable time of just four minutes, while also assessing the effectiveness of medical teams and departments in executing the plan.

Dr. Al-Radwan explained that the exercise aims to refine the skills of the work teams and improve coordination among all involved parties, while also identifying strengths and areas for improvement in emergency plans.

Moreover, Dr. Al-Radwan stressed the significance of continuous preparation through periodic exercises to maintain the highest safety and security standards for both workers and visitors. She reiterated that the commitment to providing safe and effective health services remains a top priority under all circumstances.

Dr. Al-Radwan expressed gratitude to all participants and collaborating organizations, praising the teamwork that enhances readiness and reassurance. She concluded by emphasizing that ensuring everyone’s safety is the primary goal.
