Cassation upholds two-year jail sentence for former MP Mohammed Al-Mutair

The Court of Cassation has ruled that the appeal in the case of former MP Mohammed Al-Mutair has been dropped due to his absence, but has upheld a two-year prison sentence against him.
The court confirmed the conviction for charges including insulting the position of the Amir, offending judges of the Constitutional Court, and disrespecting members of the judiciary during a political seminar.
Al-Mutair was previously convicted in connection with statements he made at a public event. The verdict of the lower court stands, following the dismissal of his appeal on procedural grounds.
