CAPT seeks amendments to 222 million dinars rainwater drainage project tender
. . . drainage network planned for four residential areas

The Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) has requested the Ministry of Public Works to introduce a number of amendments to the tender for the construction, completion, operation, and maintenance of rainwater drainage systems serving four residential areas, prior to offering the project for public bidding.
Informed sources at the Ministry of Public Works told Al-Rai that the tender, with an estimated value of KD 222 million, covers the residential areas of Sabah Al-Ahmad, South Sabah Al-Ahmad, Al-Khairan, and Al-Wafra.
The sources explained that the project aims to reduce surface water accumulation and runoff, thereby preventing flooding of streets and urban areas during heavy rainfall. It will also contribute to groundwater recharge and provide alternative water sources for agricultural irrigation, reports Al-Rai daily.
In addition, the drainage systems are designed to improve water quality by filtering pollutants such as oils, minerals, and sediments before runoff reaches the sea or groundwater reservoirs, enhancing environmental protection.
The sources added that the implementation of these projects would deliver significant economic and operational benefits, including reducing the need to purchase treated water for non-potable uses and easing the burden on wastewater treatment plants.
They noted that once the requested amendments are completed and approved, the tender will be re-submitted for competition among qualified companies, in line with regulatory procedures.
The project is part of broader efforts by the Ministry of Public Works to strengthen infrastructure resilience, improve rainwater management, and support sustainable water resource utilization across residential and agricultural areas.
