CAPT approves consultant tender for Nuwaiseeb power project

The Central Agency for Public Tenders has approved a request by the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy to float a tender for a consultant on the first phase of the Nuwaiseeb power project.
The project involves the supply, installation, operation, and maintenance of gas turbine units operating under the combined cycle system, with a planned production capacity of 3,600 megawatts.
Sources within the ministry revealed that the move to appoint a consultant is a key step in advancing the Nuwaiseeb Station Project, which has already received land allocation approval from the Kuwait Municipality and necessary regulatory clearances, reports Al-Rai daily.
This marks the ministry’s first large-scale electricity and water generation project since such initiatives were paused in 2012. The sources emphasized the ministry leadership’s commitment to accelerating the consultant selection process, paving the way for the preparation of the project’s tender documents.
The sources also noted that the government has directed oversight bodies to expedite all procedures related to the Ministry of Electricity and Water’s projects in order to strengthen the country’s electricity and water production capacity.
In a related development, the strategic water reserve is showing signs of recovery after the restoration of distillation units that had been undergoing maintenance. Current reserves have reached 59% capacity, and officials anticipate this figure to surpass 70% by the end of the month.
