He highlighted efforts to enhance patient and visitor services according to the highest health quality standards while promoting awareness and preventive measures for a safe and healthy life.

The Governor commended the dedication of all leaders and employees of the Ministry of Health, particularly acknowledging the prominent role of Minister Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi. He also praised the medical staff at Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Center for Hearing and Speech, now recognized as one of the country’s leading health centers, both locally and regionally.

Al-Salem stressed the importance of raising awareness about hearing disorders through more events and activities that reinforce preventive measures, contributing to hearing loss prevention and improved care.

Sheikha Awrad, in a similar statement, remarked that World Hearing Day presents an important opportunity to intensify efforts and highlight the significance of safe listening as a means of preserving good hearing.

Promoting ear and hearing health

She reaffirmed the need to focus on preventing hearing loss, noting that many cases are avoidable with early diagnosis and the elimination of risk factors. She underscored the importance of promoting ear and hearing health, emphasizing that timely and effective interventions enable individuals with hearing loss to reach their full potential. She also pointed to the role of advanced therapeutic technologies, assistive listening devices, and early intervention within healthcare systems.

Dr. Maryam Al-Kandari, consultant of hearing and balance disorders and head of the speech and hearing department at the ministry, stated that “Our goal today is to educate citizens, residents, and medical professionals on the importance of this day and the key issues it highlights—most notably hearing problems and the urgency of early treatment.”

She warned of the consequences of neglecting hearing issues in children, citing its negative impact on academic achievement and future productivity in society. She noted that various treatments, including cochlear implants, significantly improve children’s lives.

Around 60 cochlear implant procedures per year

Dr. Al-Kandari further revealed that the center receives approximately 3,000 patients monthly and performs 50 to 60 cochlear implant procedures annually—sponsored by the ministry for citizens and by charitable organizations and the private sector for non-Kuwaitis.
