THE TIMES KUWAIT REPORT

Ambassador of Canada H.E. Aliya Mawani, reaffirmed Canada’s strong commitment to La Francophonie and gender-equality, emphasizing the nation’s pride in being bilingual, with French and English as official languages. She highlighted that linguistic and cultural diversity are integral to Canada’s national identity, reflecting its vision for a more inclusive and diverse society.

Ambassador Mawani, in her speech at the Francophone Diwaniya organized by the Canadian Embassy on the occasion of International Francophonie Day and International Women’s Day, expressed her happiness in hosting the event. She highlighted the special significance of this year’s Francophone Diwaniya, as it coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Kuwait.

“We are proud to be part of La Francophonie, a global community of some 320 million French speakers across five continents. We are also committed to supporting the goals of the International Organization of La Francophonie, which promotes cooperation among member states, advances the French language, upholds democracy and human rights, supports education and scientific research, and fosters sustainable development,” she said.

Regarding the event’s alignment with International Women’s Day, Ambassador Mawani emphasized its importance in fostering dialogue on gender-equality and women’s empowerment. She stressed that La Francophonie is fundamentally rooted in the values of inclusiveness and diversity, ensuring the full and equal participation of all, including women.

“Studies show that investing in women strengthens societies and economies. Experience has also shown that the most diverse companies achieve greater success, and that the presence of women in leadership and negotiation positions leads to more sustainable and effective outcomes. When women succeed, society as a whole prospers, because equality is not just a matter of justice but also a key driver of development and prosperity,” the Canadian ambassador said.

Concluding her speech, Ambassador Mawani emphasized that La Francophonie is not just a shared language but a space for values and solidarity. She noted that “the diversity of Francophone cultures represents immense wealth, but it can only fully thrive when everyone enjoys the same rights, opportunities, and recognition.”
