Businesses encouraged in accepting cash to foster inclusivity and fair trade practice

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry noted that ‘cash remains an essential part of the payment process in many business activities’ except for activities for which a ministerial decision was issued to prevent payment in cash.

The Ministry explained in a statement that all other activities accept payment in cash normally and no point of sale has the right to refuse cash payment, stressing that store owners can provide additional electronic payment methods as an option for consumers in addition to cash payment to ensure the comfort of everyone and facilitate commercial operations.

It was also pointed by the Ministry that cash payment is applicable in all commercial activities except for activities for which a ministerial decision was issued to prevent payment in cash.

These activities include:

  • Domestic labour offices
  • Car sales activities
  • Temporary trade fairs
  • Pharmacies more than 10 dinars
