Anora, the Brutalist dominate 2025 Oscars, Palestinian film naps best documentary

Dominating this year’s Academy Awards was the movie Anora, napping five Oscars including best picture. The 2025 edition also includes the win of Palestinian feature, No Other Land, for best documentary.

Anora is a romantic comedy drama that tells the story of an American girl’s marriage to the heir of a Russian oligarch.

As for No Other Land, it is a Palestinian made documentary highlighting the level of damage made by Israeli occupation in the West Bank.

Anora is followed closely by The Brutalist with three Oscars. The movie follows a holocaust survivor migrating to live in the United States.

This year’s Academy awards were held amidst conflicting themes of festivities and sympathy with the city of Los Angeles as it witnessed destructive wild fires that killed tens of people and lasted for a few weeks.
