KSE gains 1.07 percent as market capitalization hits 53.5 billion dinars

. . . as selective buying, profit-taking and speculative activity supported stocks across several sectors; active trading accounts reached 55,569

The Kuwait Stock Exchange ended the trading week with gains as selective buying, , particularly small- and mid-cap companies on the Main Market.

Banking stocks also attracted strong buying during the week, helping lift the market’s overall performance. Investors also focused on shares of a Takaful insurance company and an entertainment-sector company, contributing to changes in trading activity and liquidity.

The market’s positive performance came amid continued economic stimulus measures and improved investor confidence in Kuwait’s economy. Positive assessments from international financial institutions regarding Kuwait’s economic strength and the financial position of listed companies, particularly banks, operating companies and telecommunications firms, also supported sentiment.

The Premier Market index led the gains, benefiting from strong buying in selected stocks, including companies that recently experienced changes in ownership. Investment portfolios continued to play an important role in supporting leading operational companies.

According to Capital Markets Authority data, 8,330 investment portfolios managed by 38 companies recorded combined returns of about 6.18 billion dinars during the first half of 2026. At the end of the week, the market capitalization of listed shares stood at about 53.5 billion dinars, an increase of 1.07 percent, or roughly 567 million dinars, over the previous period.

According to an Al-Shall Consulting report based on Kuwait Clearing Company data, institutions and companies remained the dominant force in trading. They accounted for 67.4 percent of total share sales, up from 61.4 percent during the same period in 2025, while their share of purchases rose to 66.9 percent, compared with 63 percent a year earlier.

Individual investors remained the second-largest contributor to market liquidity. They bought shares worth about 4.033 billion dinars and sold around 3.959 billion dinars, making them net buyers by approximately 74.1 million dinars.

Client accounts and investment portfolios also remained active. Client portfolios accounted for about 6.2 percent of both buying and selling activity, while investment funds represented about 4 percent of purchases and 5 percent of sales during the period covered by the report.

The market continued to be dominated by Kuwaiti investors. Local investors remained the largest group of traders, while investors from other nationalities maintained a larger presence than GCC investors.

Trading activity also showed a rise in the number of active accounts. The number reached 55,569 at the end of August, representing 11.7 percent of total trading accounts, compared with 53,694 at the end of July. This marked a 3.5 percent monthly increase.

Overall, the week reflected continued investor interest in selected stocks, with banks and leading operational sectors providing support while speculative trading remained concentrated in a number of smaller companies.
