Beit Al Sadu workshop brings Kuwaiti Heritage symbols to life

Participants at a workshop hosted by Beit Al Sadu explored Kuwaiti heritage through art and craftsmanship, using traditional symbols and patterns to create artistic medals and brooches. The workshop, titled “Making a Medal and Brooch in Heritage Shapes,” was held as part of the “Summer Cultural 18” festival, organized by the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters.
Workshop Combines Heritage and Contemporary Art
The workshop was presented by Iman Al-Kandari and Dima Al-Marri, who introduced participants to the fundamentals of designing and producing medals and brooches inspired by traditional heritage elements.
Participants learned how to work with various materials and artistic techniques, while transforming traditional shapes and motifs into contemporary, practical works of art.
Developing Craft Skills Through Hands-On Learning
Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), workshop presenter Iman Al-Kandari said the workshop on making brooches and medals in traditional shapes is among the activities organized as part of the “Summer Cultural 18” festival.
She said the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters is keen to organize such workshops during the summer to provide enthusiasts with opportunities to benefit from and develop their skills in different artistic and craft fields.
Al-Kandari also highlighted the importance of handicraft skills in shaping the personality of those who practice them. She noted that manual craft activities can have a positive effect on people’s psychological well-being, particularly in an era dominated by rapid technological development.
Heritage Elements Reimagined in Modern Designs
The workshop combined education with practical application, helping participants strengthen their design and visual expression skills. It also encouraged them to draw inspiration from Kuwaiti heritage and incorporate traditional elements into contemporary artistic designs.
Through this approach, heritage symbols and patterns were not only preserved but also transformed into creative works that can be used in modern contexts.
National Council Highlights Kuwaiti Cultural Heritage
The National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters places particular emphasis on Kuwaiti heritage and works to introduce its various elements and components through interactive artistic and craft workshops and activities.
The Council’s efforts aim to pass Kuwait’s cultural heritage on to future generations in a simple and innovative manner, while strengthening connections with traditional heritage by transforming its symbols, patterns and elements into contemporary artistic and handicraft works.
