PAFN seizes 180 kilos of spoiled meat, closes 5 food establishments, issues 40 citations
Public Authority for Food and Nutrition has confiscated around 180 kilos of beef, mutton and animal products deemed unfit for human consumption, while simultaneously inspection campaigns carried out in the in Jahra Governorate resulted in the closure of five food establishments and issuance of 40 citations.
The Authority’s Capital Governorate Inspection Department seized spoiled meat after inspectors found noticeable changes in color, appearance and smell. The meat was also found to be emitting unpleasant and abnormal odors, and hence unsuitable for consumption.
Inspectors also discovered that the violators had removed the official seals placed on the meat, which indicate the slaughter date. The action was reportedly intended to conceal the meat’s information and mislead consumers.
The Authority’s Jahra Governorate Inspection Department carried out periodic inspection campaigns covering warehouses and factories across the governorate. As part of the enforcement measures, the Authority ordered the closure of five food establishments and took the necessary legal action against the violating businesses.
PAFN said it would continue its regular inspection campaigns targeting food establishments across Kuwait. The inspections are aimed at ensuring compliance with approved health and food safety requirements, strengthening oversight of food establishments and protecting consumers from products that could pose a risk to public health.
