Kuwait Fire Force warns of kitchen fire risks during summer
The Kuwait Fire Force has warned residents about the increased risk of kitchen fires during the summer, urging families to follow safety and prevention measures, particularly with children spending more time at home during the school vacation.
Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Gharib, Director of Public Relations and Media, stressed that water must never be used to extinguish a cooking-oil fire, as it can cause the flames to spread and trigger a dangerous thermal reaction.
Instead, residents should use a fire blanket or an appropriate method to cover and smother the flames. If the fire cannot be safely controlled, everyone should evacuate immediately and call 112, providing emergency responders with the location and details of the incident.
The KFF also warned residents about gas leaks. In such situations, people should avoid switching electrical appliances or lights on or off, as a spark could ignite the gas. If it can be done safely, the gas regulator should be disconnected, while doors and windows should be opened to ventilate the area. Residents should then leave the home until specialists inspect and address the leak.
Parents are also urged not to leave children unsupervised in the kitchen and to keep them away from stoves, heat sources, gas cylinders and flammable materials.
The KFF emphasized that taking the correct action during the first few minutes of an incident can significantly reduce injuries and property damage, while residents should never take unnecessary risks when a fire is beyond their control.
