Authorities launch coordinated action plan to curb bachelor housing in family zones
Kuwait Municipality has announced a renewed and intensified effort to address the issue of single men residing in private and model residential areas, describing the move as part of a broader strategy to preserve the social identity of family neighborhoods and limit the negative impacts associated with the phenomenon.
The announcement came following a meeting held on Sunday by the committee responsible for monitoring bachelor residency in residential districts.
The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Director General for the Capital and Jahra Governorates Sector, Engineer Nizar Al-Awad, and attended by representatives from various concerned government authorities and agencies.
During the meeting, officials discussed mechanisms aimed at combating the spread of bachelor housing within family-designated residential areas.
The committee reviewed procedures necessary for implementing preventive measures, strengthening enforcement efforts, and following up on complaints related to non-family residents living in these neighborhoods.
Authorities also emphasized the importance of coordination among government bodies to ensure effective implementation of the regulations.
As part of the outcomes of the meeting, the committee decided to establish joint working teams with the relevant agencies to monitor violations and accelerate response measures.
Periodic reports documenting the committee’s progress and enforcement activities will also be submitted as part of the ongoing monitoring process, reports Al-Rai daily.
Following the session, Engineer Nizar Al-Awad stated that the committee’s recommendations focused not only on preserving the social structure of residential communities but also on protecting infrastructure services from damage and misuse.
He noted that overcrowded bachelor housing often contributes to pressure on electricity networks, rainwater drainage systems, and sewage infrastructure, creating risks to public safety and property.
The Municipality stressed that the campaign falls within the framework of activating existing laws and regulations governing residential areas, while reinforcing cooperation between concerned institutions to ensure compliance and maintain the character and stability of Kuwaiti neighborhoods.
