Kuwait Launches Women’s Excellence Award Under PM’s Patronage
Biennial initiative aims to empower Gulf women, showcase success stories, and strengthen Kuwait’s role in advancing women’s achievements regionally and globally
Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal AlHuwayla announced the launch of the “Kuwait Award for Women’s Excellence: Status and Empowerment” under the patronage of His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad AlSabah, coinciding with Kuwaiti Women’s Day on May 16.
Speaking during a press conference held on Thursday, AlHuwayla said the initiative reflects Kuwait’s commitment to supporting and empowering women, while enhancing their role as active partners in achieving sustainable development goals in line with Kuwait Vision 2035.
The minister explained that the award goes beyond recognizing achievements, aiming instead to leverage the creativity and experiences of winners and transfer them to future generations to create a positive societal impact. She added that the initiative complements national efforts, including the recently launched Kuwait Award for Creativity for People with Disabilities.
AlHuwayla noted that the award will serve as a strategic platform to strengthen Kuwait’s presence in international forums by showcasing successful national and regional experiences and documenting the country’s efforts in fulfilling its development commitments.
She revealed that the award will be held every two years on May 16, initially launching at the Gulf regional level as a pilot phase before expanding internationally.
According to the minister, the award is built around two key objectives — honoring outstanding Gulf women’s achievements and empowering winners through practical programs and initiatives that promote positive change and inspire future generations.
The award’s broader objectives also include improving women’s empowerment indicators in Kuwait, launching an online platform for women’s initiatives, connecting participants with supporting entities, and establishing a database of female talent to assist decision-makers.
AlHuwayla stated that the award categories will cover excellence in the governmental, private and civil society sectors, as well as individual achievements. She also announced plans to establish strategic partnerships with specialized entities to support the initiative’s objectives.
The minister further disclosed that a high-level committee will soon be formed to oversee the organization and implementation of the award, with participation from several relevant entities. The committee will be responsible for setting regulatory frameworks and approving evaluation criteria, while the Ministry of Social Affairs will supervise coordination and execution.
Concluding the press conference, AlHuwayla stressed that the patronage of His Highness the Prime Minister reflects the leadership’s belief in the important role of women as active partners in driving positive societal change.
