KNPC sets new deadline for submitting bids for Al-Mutla’a project

The Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) has pushed back the deadline for submitting bids for the anticipated fuel depot project in the Al-Mutla’a area of Kuwait. Initially set for February 13, the new deadline is now April 30. MEED, a prominent business intelligence platform, disclosed this update, shedding light on the project’s scope and background.

Dubbed the New Al-Mutla’a Fuel Depot Project, the initiative entails a comprehensive development plan. This includes establishing new pumping facilities at the Mina Al-Ahmadi and Shuaiba refineries, laying cross-country pipelines, constructing a local market depot, implementing safety and fire-fighting systems, and erecting storage tanks, reports Al-Qabas daily.

MEED previously reported on the project’s progress, noting significant delays since its inception in 2013. The UK-based Wood Group completed revised front-end engineering and design work in December 2021. Originally finished in 2015, this phase underwent revision following the refurbishment of the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery as part of the $16 billion Clean Fuels Project.

The completion of the Clean Fuels Project’s units in September 2021 marked a milestone for the Kuwait National Petroleum Company. This project amalgamated and modernized the Mina Abdullah and Mina Al-Ahmadi refineries, substantially increasing production capacity.
