Two-day conference to focus on current international critical topics

The Kuwaiti Federation of Women’s Societies has announced the commencement of activities for the regional conference titled “Arab Women, Peace and Security: Challenges Facing Women in the Arab Region,” scheduled for next Thursday.

The conference, held under the slogan “Stopping the War on Gaza Now, Not Tomorrow,” will span two days and is being held under the patronage of Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya, reports Al-Jarida daily.

Sheikha Fadia Al-Saad, the President of the Union, highlighted the significance of the conference, emphasizing its importance amidst current international events and the collective efforts, both international and local, to combat violence against women and children during armed conflicts.

The conference is being organized in collaboration with the Arab Women’s Organization and will feature the participation of distinguished women’s ministers and representatives from various international and regional organizations focused on women’s affairs.

The conference will consist of five working sessions, each focusing on critical topics. The first session will delve into the role of Palestinian women in confronting the Israeli occupation, monitoring crimes against women and girls, and analyzing the health situation in the Gaza Strip. Additionally, it will cover the documentation of the repercussions of Israeli aggression on Gaza, presenting facts and figures.

The subsequent sessions will cover topics such as the repercussions of the occupation of Kuwait in 1990, the effects of armed conflict in Sudan on women and children, steps towards peace, international humanitarian law, decision systems related to women, peace, and security, transitioning from a ceasefire to sustainable solutions, and the efforts of Arab national mechanisms in implementing Resolution No. 1325.

The conference will conclude with a closing session during which the Kuwait Appeal on the protection of women and children in the Arab region during wars and armed conflicts will be announced. This initiative aims to address the urgent need for the protection of women and children in conflict zones and seeks to mobilize collective action towards this important cause.
