Education Ministry refers schools to investigation over asphalt violations

The Ministry of Education has stepped up regulatory measures to ensure full compliance with approved technical standards in maintenance and development works, reinforcing accountability and safeguarding the sustainability of school infrastructure.
The move comes as part of the government’s broader commitment to improving public spending efficiency and enhancing safety and quality across educational facilities, reports Al-Rai daily.
Minister of Education Eng. Jalal Al-Tabtabaei has directed educational officials to immediately remove all violations identified by the Ministry of Public Works related to unauthorized technical encroachments on newly laid asphalt at a number of schools in several educational districts.
The minister has also ordered that all schools found to be in violation be referred for investigation, with those responsible held accountable in accordance with established legal procedures.
According to informed sources, the Ministry of Public Works has formally notified the Ministry of Education that these violations pose a direct threat to safety and quality standards and undermine the warranty period covering asphalt works, resulting in unnecessary waste of public funds, as repairs would have to be carried out again outside the warranty scope.
The sources added that concerned authorities stressed the need to swiftly remove and address the violations before the damage worsens or spreads to other areas within school parking lots and facilities.
Officials emphasized the importance of adhering to prior coordination with the Ministry of Public Works before undertaking any future works, in order to ensure proper implementation, maintain safety standards, and protect public funds.
The sources confirmed that both the Ministries of Education and Public Works are keen to strengthen cooperation in maintaining educational facilities.
This joint approach aims to preserve maintenance work, prevent improper practices that could cause damage, and achieve the highest levels of quality and sustainability in service projects.
