Kuwait awards $253 million contract to upgrade Shuwaikh Water Distribution Complex

Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy (MEW) has awarded a major infrastructure contract for the development of the existing Shuwaikh Water Distribution Complex, underscoring the country’s continued commitment to strengthening its water supply network.

The project, valued at 77.7 million dinars (approximately $253 million), has been awarded to Khalid Ali Al-Kharafi & Brothers Co., one of Kuwait’s leading contracting firms with extensive experience in large-scale utility and infrastructure projects.

According to official details, the contract covers the construction, completion, maintenance and development of the existing Shuwaikh water distribution complex, along with all associated and supporting works required to ensure seamless operation, according to SG Projects.

The project is designed to upgrade the complex’s technical and operational capabilities, enhancing the efficiency, reliability and capacity of water distribution in the Shuwaikh area and surrounding districts.

Upon completion, the upgraded facility is expected to play a key role in meeting rising water demand, while improving network performance and reducing operational risks.

MEWRE said the project forms part of its broader strategy to modernize critical infrastructure, improve service delivery and ensure long-term sustainability of essential utilities.

The award also reflects the ministry’s focus on partnering with experienced national contractors to deliver strategic projects that support Kuwait’s development goals.

The Shuwaikh Water Distribution Complex is a vital component of Kuwait’s water infrastructure, and its expansion and modernization are expected to strengthen the resilience of the national water supply system.
