Kuwait charts a new course in cancer care with global expertise

. . . and a state-of-the-art center

Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi chaired an expanded coordination meeting with the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Cancer Control Center, focusing on preparations for the transition to the center’s new facility and the strategic expansion of international partnerships to elevate cancer care in Kuwait.

The meeting underscored the Ministry of Health’s commitment to modernizing oncology services and delivering care that meets the highest global standards. Dr. Al-Awadhi emphasized that collaboration with leading international institutions — particularly France’s Gustave Roussy Hospital, one of the world’s foremost cancer centers — represents a qualitative leap in strengthening clinical expertise, professional training and scientific research.

He commended the efforts of the board and medical teams, reaffirming the ministry’s full backing for ongoing development initiatives aimed at continuous improvement and innovation in cancer treatment services, reports Al-Anba daily.

The meeting reviewed the latest progress on the new center, which is scheduled to open in accordance with advanced international medical benchmarks.

The facility is expected to significantly enhance Kuwait’s specialized healthcare infrastructure and expand the range and quality of oncology services available to patients.

Discussions also addressed ministerial directives related to closely monitoring development projects and upgrading both therapeutic and research services, with a strong emphasis on maintaining uninterrupted patient care during the relocation process.

Detailed logistical, technical and operational plans were examined to ensure a seamless transition to the new site without disrupting ongoing treatments.

The meeting further explored mechanisms to activate the memorandum of understanding with Gustave Roussy Hospital, including the transfer of cutting-edge expertise in tumor diagnosis and treatment, reciprocal scientific visits, and the design of advanced training programs to prepare highly specialized national medical cadres.

In line with Kuwait Vision 2035, participants stressed the importance of updating treatment protocols, strengthening early detection initiatives, and expanding psychological and social support services for patients and their families — reinforcing a holistic, patient-centered approach to cancer care.
