The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that it shot down a drone that had approached the country’s airspace from the direction of the Black Sea.
According to the ministry, Turkish aircraft, supported by NATO F-16s, were placed on high alert to secure the nation’s airspace after the drone was detected.
Authorities confirmed that the drone was out of control and was intercepted in a safe area. However, details regarding its type and origin were not disclosed, reports Al-Rai daily.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Black Sea, following recent Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports that damaged three Turkish-owned cargo ships. Türkiye had issued warnings last week about potential escalations in the region.
