Kuwait, Uzbekistan sign new agreements as economic ties gain momentum

Joint committee expands cooperation across key sectors; new trade routes, investments highlight growing Kuwait–Uzbek partnership

The second session of the Kuwaiti-Uzbek Joint Committee for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation concluded with the signing of several agreements covering a range of priority sectors, underscoring the rapid growth of bilateral relations between the two countries.

The meeting was chaired by Kuwait’s Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Minister of Finance and Acting Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment, Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhaizeem, alongside Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Laziz Kudratov.

Dr. Al-Mukhaizeem said the past 12 months witnessed an unprecedented strengthening of relations between Kuwait and Uzbekistan, noting that such progress would typically require years of sustained diplomatic and economic engagement.

He affirmed Kuwait’s commitment to economic diversification, financial sector development and the expansion of global investment partnerships, describing these priorities as fertile ground for Uzbek investors and companies and urged the private sector in both countries to take advantage of the wide range of opportunities available.

Al-Mukhaizeem highlighted several promising areas for cooperation, particularly in energy, including conventional and renewable sources. He noted that Kuwait’s long-standing expertise, combined with Uzbekistan’s expansion plans, opens the door to joint investments, technology transfer and technical cooperation.

Agriculture and food security were also identified as strategic fields for partnership, with Uzbekistan’s fertile lands and strong agricultural output complementing Kuwait’s investment capabilities to create sustainable projects that enhance long-term food security.

He added that financial markets and investment funds represent another key area of cooperation, citing opportunities in banking, insurance, financial technology and portfolio investment, supported by the growing financial sectors in both countries.

In addition, Al-Mukhaizeem pointed to the technology and innovation sector, including artificial intelligence and digital services, as well as education and scientific research, where cooperation between universities and research institutions could help develop future generations of skilled professionals.

For his part, Minister Kudratov said more than 30 Uzbek companies are already working with Kuwaiti counterparts, while discussions are ongoing on new contracts and investment deals to further strengthen economic ties.

He revealed that a trial shipment of goods from Samarkand to Kuwait was successfully completed last month within 15 days, proving the efficiency of the route. Work is now underway on an alternative route via northern Iranian ports, which could reduce delivery times to seven or eight days.

Kudratov praised the role of Jazeera Airways in boosting trade and investment through increased and improved flight services, contributing to stronger interaction and closer ties between the two nations.

He noted that trade exchange between Kuwait and Uzbekistan has increased fivefold over the past five years, stressing the importance of facilitating mutual recognition of specifications and standards to unlock the full trade potential.

Kudratov also expressed interest in expanding cooperation in petrochemicals, real estate development and food security, highlighting Uzbekistan’s growing population, major urban development plans and strong agricultural production.

Officials from Kuwait’s investment, commerce and food authorities echoed the importance of long-term partnerships and effective follow-up mechanisms to translate committee decisions into tangible projects that deliver mutual economic benefits.
