3630 Indonesians in Kuwait to participate in landmark constitutional process
Indonesian ambassador to Kuwait, Lena Mariana, assured that the elections in Kuwait will be conducted with transparency and monitored by representatives from the top 5 Indonesian parties out of a total of 18 parties.
Indonesian ambassador to Kuwait, Lena Mariana, confirms that over 6000 Indonesian citizens reside in Kuwait. She pointed out that 3630 eligible voters for upcoming elections on 9th of this month at the embassy comprise 1,189 male voters and 2,441 female voters.
At a press conference at the embassy, ambassador Mariana thanked Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior officers for their collaboration in organizing the polls. She informed Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs of her intention to conduct the elections, emphasizing their global significance akin to those in Indonesia.
Ambassador Mariana assured that the elections in Kuwait will be conducted with transparency and monitored by representatives from the top 5 Indonesian parties out of a total of 18 parties. She mentioned that the Indonesian government will hold its general elections to choose members of the National Parliament, Regional Representative Council, Regional Representatives, President, Vice President, Regional Parliament members, and Municipal Parliament members for a 5-year term from 2024 to 2029, starting on February 14 of the current year.
The ambassador said the general elections will adhere to principles of direct, public, free, secret, fair, and impartial voting. She noted that these single-day elections are globally recognized as the largest and most complex in electoral systems.
Ambassador Mariana shared figures on the total number of overseas voters, encompassing Kuwait, reaching approximately 1,750,474, comprising 751,260 male voters and 999,214 female voters. Voting is slated for February 9, commencing from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM.
She noted that the External Election Organization team in Kuwait comprises 55 volunteers from the Indonesian community. The President and Vice President-elect are set to be inaugurated on October 20, 2024.
The ambassador announced that the voting process would start ahead of schedule, on February 7, with “mobile elections.” A designated electoral committee will visit three locations across Kuwait, facilitating 21 Indonesians unable to attend the embassy on the 9th due to work commitments to cast their votes in mobile ballot boxes under the committee’s supervision.
