Illegal clinic busted; eight arrested in drug-trafficking, unlicensed medical practice

Plainclothesmen from the Criminal Investigation Department have dismantled an illegal ‘medical care center’ which was being operated from inside a residential apartment in the Farwaniya district where unlicensed medical care was given and unauthorized sale of medicines happened away from the eyes of the authorities.

Following the raid four Indians who were found on the premises were taken into custody. The investigators determined that one of the persons had been practicing medicine without license, while the remaining three had been visiting the makeshift clinic to receive treatment.

In-depth investigations uncovered a separate network involved in the delivery of government-supplied medicines in exchange for money.

Three Bangladeshi nationals were arrested for transporting these medicines to the main accused outside legal channels. Further inquiries revealed that a Bangladeshi employee working at a government health center had been stealing medicines from the facility and selling them to the accused. With his arrest, the total number of suspects in the case rose to eight — an Indian and Bangladeshis, reports Al-Rai daily.

The authorities have confirmed that the seized medicines have been secured in coordination with the Drug Control Department at the Ministry of Health, and that legal procedures have been initiated against all those involved.

The operation formed part of coordinated efforts between the Security Directorates Affairs Sector and the Criminal Security Affairs Sector to confront illegal medical activities and protect public health.
