DR Congo produced a spirited comeback to earn a valuable point against Portugal in a hard-fought Group K clash at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Portugal took an early lead in the 6th minute when João Neves finished off a move created by Pedro Neto. The Europeans controlled much of the first half, but DR Congo gradually grew into the contest and were rewarded in stoppage time when Yoane Wissa powered home a spectacular header to level the score.
The second half was packed with chances at both ends. Portugal had a João Cancelo goal ruled out for offside, while Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes both went close. DR Congo nearly completed the turnaround when Cédric Bakambu struck the post after a brilliant individual run. Despite late pressure from Portugal, DR Congo held firm to secure a deserved draw.
