MOH strengthens radiation protection systems to ensure a safe environment

The Ministry of Health, through its Radiation Protection Department, organized a workshop under the title “Radiation protection: A new vision towards a healthy and safe environment” with the participation of experts and specialists from the fields of medicine, industry, and scientific research, both from Kuwait and abroad.
During the event, Dr. Al-Mundhir Al-Hassawi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs, emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening the national radiation protection system.
He highlighted ongoing efforts to modernize reference laboratories for radiation measurements, upgrade environmental monitoring networks, enhance the readiness of emergency response teams, and train qualified national personnel in this vital field, reports Al-Rai daily.
Dr. Al-Hassawi also underlined the importance of digital transformation in improving the regulatory and technical capabilities of the Radiation Protection Department.
He noted the Ministry’s continued cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to implement the advanced data management system RAIS+ to streamline oversight and enhance safety standards.
For his part, Dr. Nasser Al-Juwaisseri, Director of the Radiation Protection Department, stressed that safeguarding people and the environment from radiation hazards is a shared national responsibility, requiring coordination among all relevant sectors.
He affirmed the department’s commitment to supporting Kuwait’s national vision for radiation protection and promoting the safe and sustainable use of nuclear and radiation technologies to serve health, environmental, and developmental goals.
The workshop aims to reinforce awareness of radiation safety, review Kuwait’s progress in legislative and infrastructural development, and discuss the latest global practices in environmental monitoring and preparedness for nuclear and radiological emergencies.
