Municipal Director General announces rules for barbecues in public places

The Municipal Director General, M. Saud Al-Dabbous, has issued a decision outlining regulations for organizing barbecue places in public areas, squares, facilities, waterfronts, and public lands. Under this decision, barbecues will be permitted from November 1 to March 31 of each year, specifically between twelve noon and four in the afternoon, reported Al-Qabas Daily.

The decision has identified certain beaches controlled by the Tourism Projects Company where barbecues will be allowed. These include the areas behind Megana Restaurant (service center), behind Burger King and Pizza Hut Restaurant (Service Center 3), and behind Villa Fayrouz Restaurant (Service Center 4). Barbecues will also be permitted at Egaila Beach and Al Khiran Park (for members only), with designated times determined by the Tourism Projects Company. To ensure responsible barbecuing, the decision outlines several controls to be followed in the permitted areas.

These include not disposing of barbecue waste, charcoal, or combustion aids unless they have been extinguished and placed in a designated container provided by the Tourism Projects Company. The decision also calls for the allocation of a separate vehicle for removing barbecue and charcoal waste to avoid mixing it with other refuse.

Information boards will be placed at the entrances and exits of the beaches, warning against barbecuing outside the designated spaces. Al-Dabbous has urged the parties supervising the authorized barbecue sites mentioned in the decision to adhere to various requirements.

These include establishing guidelines, creating explanatory maps and signs, and conducting awareness campaigns for citizens and residents in coordination with the municipality. These entities must also comply with the provisions of the Environmental Protection Law and its amendments.
