The Court of Cassation, chaired by Counselor Sultan Bursali, has upheld a four-year prison sentence and a fine of 10,000 Kuwaiti dinars against Anwar Hayati for publicly challenging the rights and powers of His Highness the Amir and for inciting sectarian strife.
The court, however, acquitted Hayati of the charge of insulting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, reports Al-Rai daily.
According to the case details, the Public Prosecution accused the defendant of using the social media platform X to question the constitutional authority of the Amir, provoke sectarian divisions, and offend Saudi Arabia.
Hayati denied all the charges during the proceedings. The ruling is now final and enforceable.
