Crown Prince Leads Kuwait Delegation at UNGA, Calls for Stronger UN Reform

Sheikh Sabah Khaled stresses need for an effective UN as Kuwait joins world leaders for the organization’s 80th anniversary session

His Highness the Amir’s Representative, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, described the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) as “a pivotal moment for renewing the international community’s commitment to reforming the UN and enhancing its mechanisms to address global challenges.”

Upon arrival at JFK International Airport in New York, His Highness was received by Amiri Diwan Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Mazen Issa Al-Issa, Kuwait’s Ambassador to the US Sheikha Al-Zain Sabah Nasser Al-Sabah, and Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the UN Tareq Mohammad Al-Bannai.

The Crown Prince expressed his honor in representing His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at this important session, which coincides with the UN’s 80th anniversary and gathers 105 leaders and heads of state and government.

He emphasized that any reform efforts must “build a more efficient and effective international system, enhance global peace and security, and achieve development for all.”

The session’s agenda includes several high-level meetings, notably a discussion on the two-state solution, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France. His Highness voiced optimism that the meeting would bring significant progress, including recognition of the State of Palestine by major and influential countries — a step toward full UN membership.

The Crown Prince also underscored the importance of bilateral meetings with world leaders to strengthen relations and address regional and international issues. He added that he would meet with leading financial institutions and US companies partnering with Kuwait to discuss strategic plans aligned with Kuwait Vision 2035.
