Summer travel season dent supermarket sales by 10%

As Kuwaitis and expatriates flock abroad during the summer, supermarket and cooperative society sales of basic and non-essential goods dip by up to 10%, according to cooperative societies officials.

The seasonal slowdown prompts retailers to organize promotions and shopping festivals to sustain revenues and maintain cash flow, especially ahead of the back-to-school period.

Experts note that the decline is often accompanied by a surplus in food and other items, leading to coordinated efforts by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Social Affairs, cooperative societies, and the private sector to monitor consumption and reinforce strategic reserves.
