Emirates ‘bans’ in-flight use of power banks starting Oct 1, 2025

As a precautionary in-flight safety measures, the Emirates has announced a new policy restricting the use of power banks on board, effective October 1, 2025.

The decision follows a comprehensive safety review prompted by an industry-wide increase in lithium battery-related incidents, according to news reports.

Under the updated rules, passengers may carry one power bank with a capacity of less than 100 watt-hours, but it cannot be used to charge devices or be recharged from the aircraft’s power supply during the flight.

The power bank’s capacity must be clearly labeled, and it must be stored in the seat pocket or in a bag under the seat—not in overhead lockers.

The existing ban on placing power banks in checked baggage remains unchanged.
