Houthi shelling, sniper fire kill 11 civilians, wound 53 in Taiz over one week

Houthi shelling, sniper fire kill 11 civilians, wound 53 in Taiz over one week across Taiz Governorate between October 14 and 21, Saudi authorities reported.
The Office for Siege Affairs in Taiz Governorate stated in a press release late Wednesday that the latest toll includes two civilians killed and 11 others injured during intense attacks targeting populated residential neighborhoods and rural villages.
The government office detailed that artillery shells, drone strikes, landmines, and sniper attacks hit multiple locations, including Kahlan Sabr, Al-Aqroud, the residential neighborhoods of Sina and Bir Basha, and the Dabba area in Al-Masrakh District.
The update follows an earlier statement from the office covering October 14 to 20, which recorded nine deaths-six women and three men-and 42 injuries, including 12 children and 12 women. The local authority called on the United Nations, international human rights entities, and relief organizations to intervene urgently to protect civilians and halt deliberate targeting of residential areas.
The escalation in Taiz coincides with heightened regional security concerns as international bodies continue to urge the opening of humanitarian corridors and an end to the siege imposed on the governorate.
