Kuwait’s Ambassador to China, Jassim Al-Najem, reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to enhancing constructive media dialogue and deepening collaboration between media institutions and think tanks across Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states.
Speaking at the SCO Media and Think Tank Summit in Zhengzhou, the capital of China’s Henan Province, Al-Najem described the event as a key platform for regional understanding, development, and cooperation. The summit was attended by senior officials from international, Arab, and Gulf media outlets, including Acting Director General of KUNA, Mohammed Al-Mannai, reports Al-Rai daily.
“This important forum brings together decision-makers, thinkers, and media professionals from across the SCO region to strengthen frameworks of understanding and intellectual cooperation between our peoples,” Al-Najem said.
The ambassador highlighted the summit’s focus on issues central to future development, including enhancing digital innovation and economic integration; supporting sustainable development and green transition; empowering institutions through innovative solutions and promoting cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
Al-Najem stressed Kuwait’s readiness to expand partnerships with SCO member states, noting that current geopolitical tensions and post-pandemic challenges underscore the urgent need for regional integration. He described this integration as a “strategic necessity” for sustainable growth and stability.
He also emphasized the inseparable link between economic progress and media awareness, pointing to the crucial role of media and think tanks in promoting cooperation, communicating the value of integration, and sharing success stories across borders.
As part of Kuwait’s own development journey, he cited Vision 2035, highlighting strategic projects like Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port and the Northern Economic Zone aimed at strengthening logistics, trade, and investment ties with Asia.
“True trade facilitation goes beyond ports and roads. It also requires modern regulations, simplified customs procedures, and transparent investment rules,” he said.
Al-Najem praised the Belt and Road Initiative, launched by Chinese President Xi Jinping, as a “global platform for development and connectivity” that aligns with Kuwait’s strategic goals and enhances regional cooperation.
He concluded by delivering the greetings of Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, and expressed hope that the summit would yield concrete outcomes to elevate regional media and intellectual collaboration.
