The Meteorological Department announced that the Rabiya area recorded the highest temperature in the country on Tuesday, reaching a scorching 51°C, while Jahra, Abdali, and the Kuwait International Airport followed closely at 50°C.
Dharar Al-Ali, Acting Director of the department, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the extreme heat is the result of an extension of the Indian monsoon depression, which has brought with it a very hot air mass and light to moderate northwesterly winds that occasionally shift direction, particularly along the coast.
He added that extremely hot daytime conditions are expected to persist, with hot to warm evenings and relatively high humidity along coastal areas. However, he noted that humidity levels will begin to drop starting Friday.
The department forecasts that maximum temperatures will range between 50°C and 52°C in some regions through the week, with the heatwave likely to continue until Saturday.
