Kuwait, Sweden explore new avenues for cooperation

Kuwaiti Ambassador to Sweden, H.E. Mohammed Hayati, met with Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Stenergård to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation across various sectors.

In a statement, the Kuwaiti Embassy in Sweden confirmed that Ambassador Hayati delivered a letter from Kuwait’s Foreign Minister, Abdullah Al-Yahya, to Minister Stenergård.

The letter praised the strong and longstanding ties between Kuwait and Sweden, which this year mark the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. It also included an official invitation for the Swedish minister to visit Kuwait, reports Al-Jarida daily.

The statement noted that the meeting covered opportunities to deepen cooperation in investment and trade, as well as ways to leverage Swedish expertise in areas such as innovation, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. Discussions also explored potential collaboration in the health sector, pharmaceutical manufacturing, the green economy, and recycling.

Ambassador Hayati highlighted the success of the Kuwaiti-Swedish energy partnership, particularly the presence of OKQ8 in Sweden and other Nordic countries, where it operates in fuel distribution, transportation, and related services.

He also emphasized the two countries’ effective collaboration on the multilateral stage, especially during their joint tenure as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council in 2018.
