Egypt praises Kuwait’s role in UN Security Council reform talks

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Badr Abdel Aati, commended Kuwait’s pivotal role in chairing the intergovernmental negotiations on reforming the United Nations Security Council, both in previous years and during the current session of the UN General Assembly.

According to a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Sunday, Abdel Aati expressed his appreciation during a meeting with Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Chair of the Governmental Negotiations on Security Council Reform, Ambassador Tariq Al-Bannai. The meeting also included Kuwait’s Ambassador to Egypt, Ghanem Al-Ghanim, reports Al-Rai daily.

Minister Abdel Aati welcomed Ambassador Al-Bannai’s visit to Cairo as part of his regional tour, and reiterated Egypt’s firm stance in support of Security Council reform. He emphasized that Egypt’s position aligns with the African consensus outlined in the Ezulwini Consensus, the Sirte Declaration, and the broader Arab framework on the issue.

The minister also reaffirmed Egypt’s backing for the efforts of the African “Committee of Ten,” led by Sierra Leone, in promoting and defending the continent’s unified position in the ongoing reform negotiations.
