Kuwait’s top court upholds Appeal Court verdict
The Court of Cassation has upheld the verdict of the Court of Appeal and refrained from punishing the social media user known as ‘Al-Fankoush,’ who was accused of spreading false news on the X platform (formerly Twitter) and creating fake accounts.
Previously, the Criminal Court had found “Al-Fankoush” guilty and sentenced him to three years in prison with hard labor for disseminating false information about the country’s internal affairs, reports Al-Rai daily.
However, the Court of Appeal later overturned that sentence, opting instead for a decision to abstain from punishment — a ruling now confirmed by the highest court.
The verdict marks the conclusion of legal proceedings in the case, which drew public attention over issues related to freedom of expression, misinformation, and online identity.
