Marriage contracts in Kuwait now require premarital health checks

The Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi approved the updated executive regulations of Law No. 31 of 2008 regarding medical examinations for individuals wishing to marry. This step aims to enhance the quality of health services, protect public health, and reduce the rates of genetic and infectious diseases.

The new regulation includes several amendments, with the most notable being the expansion of the medical examination scope to cover all marriage contracts in Kuwait, regardless of whether both parties are Kuwaiti, one is Kuwaiti, or both are non-Kuwaiti. Additionally, the regulation introduces the use of digital applications to streamline some premarital medical examination procedures.

The Ministry of Health stated that the new amendments will take effect from April 1, 2025, following their publication in the Official Gazette.
