Media license suspension is temporary will not affect licensed and operating websites

The Assistant Undersecretary for Press, Publishing, and Publications at the Ministry of Information, Lafi Al-Subaie, confirmed that the Ministry has suspended the renewal and issuance of licenses for services, accounts, and websites until the new media regulation law is enacted. The law will outline updated controls and requirements and will be published in the Official Gazette upon its issuance.

Al-Subaie clarified that the suspension of license applications will not affect the operations of currently licensed entities. He noted that work is ongoing on the new draft media regulation law, which Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, recently announced is nearing completion and will be finalized soon.

Moreover, Al-Subaie emphasized that the suspension of licenses is only temporary until the new law is issued. He reassured that licensed websites, services, and accounts will not be affected, as their licenses remain valid until at least next year.

Al-Subaie clarified that the suspension does not apply to personal and non-professional accounts. However, it covers all licenses under Article 5 of the current law, including news agencies, electronic press, news services, websites, digital media, commercial electronic media, advertising services, and more.
