The Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) will hold its 113th meeting of the Organization’s Council of Ministers tomorrow, Sunday, 15 December, in the State of Kuwait. The meeting will be attended by the Oil and Energy Ministers, from the member states.
The meeting will be chaired by the State of Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and CEO of QatarEnergy, Saad Al-Kaabi, as the current chair of the 2024 session.
Regarding this, the OAPEC Secretary General, Jamal Al-Loughani said in a statement to KUNA today, Saturday, that in the meeting several important items on its agenda will be discussed. Notable among them are the draft budget for 2025 and initiatives related to developing the organization’s work.
Al-Loughani added that the meeting will also cover topics related to restructuring the organization, developing its activities, and reviewing the systems and laws that govern its work. This is to ensure compatibility with the challenges and new developments in the field of energy.
Moreover, Al-Loughani stated that during the meeting, the final report on the first phase related to developing the organization’s work will be reviewed.
The agenda also includes honoring the winners of the OAPEC Scientific Research Award for 2022, which is presented every two years. Additionally, there will be approval of a proposal to increase the award’s value starting from the 2024 award.
Al-Loughani pointed out that the meeting will follow up on the activation of the Ministerial Council’s decision regarding the Green Middle East Initiative, the adoption of the circular carbon economy concept, and a review of the global petroleum situation.
It will also discuss developments in the field of liquefied natural gas and hydrogen industries, the progress of work in the organization’s information bank, and following up on environmental affairs, including climate change. Additionally, the meeting will review events organized or participated in by the General Secretariat.
Al-Loughani added that the 172nd meeting of the Executive Office of the organization will be held later today, Saturday, 14 December, typically taking place before the ministerial meeting scheduled for tomorrow.
The meeting will be attended by the members of the Executive Office and will be chaired by the representative of the State of Qatar in the office, H. E. Sheikh Meshal Al Thani. Qatar currently holds the chair for the 2024 session of the Executive Office.
Al-Loughani praised the role played by the Government of the State of Kuwait in hosting the headquarters of the organization for over half a century and overcoming all challenges to ensure the success of the organization’s meetings.
Expressing gratitude, to the member states for their continuous support, Al-Loughani said, this has enabled the General Secretariat to achieve the goals for which the organization was established.
