Farewell reception held for ambassadors of Armenia, Cyprus and Peru

Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Tajikistan H.E. Dr. Zubaydullo Zubaydov held a farewell ceremony on 24 September at the St Regis Hotel for the ambassadors of Armenia, Cyprus and Peru to mark the end of their tenures in Kuwait

In attendance were members of the diplomatic corps and members of International Organisations in Kuwait along with media representatives.

Addressing the distinguished gathering Ambassador Zubaydov, praised the efforts made by the outgoing ambassadors to develop their country’s relations with Kuwait in various fields, as well as the support and cooperation they extended to the diplomatic fraternity during their tenure in Kuwait

Ambassador Zubaydov pointed out that the ambassadors maintained excellent rapport with their colleagues and also worked hard to build and further develop their relations with the host country, Kuwait.

He also referred to Kuwait’s humanitarian and political positions, describing them as  distinctive,  and pointing out that Kuwait has spared no effort in providing humanitarian assistance to those affected by wars and natural disasters worldwide, as well as standing by just causes.

He highlighted the Kuwaiti stance with the Palestinian people, especially the people of Gaza, and praised the assistance provided by the Kuwaiti Red Crescent to those affected by the war.

On behalf of the diplomatic corps Ambassador Zubaydov extended best wishes and success to the outgoing ambassadors in their future endeavors. He also took the opportunity to welcome new ambassadors joining the diplomatic corps and wished them a good stay in Kuwait. He promised wholehearted support and cooperation from the Deanship of the Diplomatic Corps to the new ambassadors.

In his farewell address Ambassador of Cyprus, H.E. Michael Mavros expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the government and people of Kuwait for their continued support and cooperation to him and his country.

He also pointed out that the warm welcome he has received since his arrival was heartwarming and touching and he will remember his tenure in Kuwait fondly because of the friendships he made during what was his first posting here as ambassador.

Ambassador Marvos took the opportunity to praise Kuwait’s foreign policy, which he said was outstanding in the global humanitarian field and commended Kuwait’s efforts to promote peace, stability and security at the regional level.

He also thanked everyone at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their open door policy and also appreciated Kuwait’s principled long term policy on Cyprus. In conclusion he thanked the dean for his professionalism and support and also all his diplomatic colleagues for the time spent together. Ambassador Mavros will be taking up his next assignment in Armenia.

In his farewell remarks Ambassador of Peru H.E. Carlos Velasco Mendiola, expressed mixed feelings on the completion of his tenure but was happy that bilateral relations were on the right track and on the upswing.

He described his tenure as special as he built many bonds of friendship and cooperation that will last a lifetime. He expressed sincere gratitude to the government and people of Kuwait for their warmth, friendship and support which enriched his personal experiences.

Ambassador Velsco also praised the various facets of Kuwaiti life from culture to tradition to cuisine that were a source of joy during his stay.

For his part, Ambassador of Armenia H.E. Sarmen Baghdasarian praised his tenure in Kuwait, pointing out that it was eventful and satisfactory. He applauded the support he received by the Armenian community in Kuwait and also thanked the Kuwaiti authorities for their cooperation.

He described his tenure in Kuwait as enriching, both professionally and personally, adding that his family has been deeply touched by the warmth and hospitality of the Kuwaiti people. He pointed out that the generosity, kindness, and openness encountered in Kuwait made him feel incredibly at home here.
