270 cameras watch over Kuwait’s roads to ease school traffic
The deployment of surveillance cameras will track traffic jams, accidents, and vehicle breakdowns, helping to identify and manage congestion hotspots.

Major Engineer Ali Al-Qattan, head of the Central Control Department in the Traffic and Operations Sector, announced the deployment of 270 surveillance cameras to monitor traffic jams, accidents, and vehicle breakdowns at the start of the academic year.
In a statement to Al-Rai newspaper during a tour of the control room in South Al-Sabahiya, Major Al-Qattannoted that with the start of the academic year, some areas have experienced increased vehicle density and traffic congestion. This is being monitored through screens and patrols, especially on highways like the Fifth Ring Road, Fahaheel Road, and King Fahd Road.
He added that “traffic was flowing and manageable.”Major Al-Qattan highlighted that the central control room is equipped with 270 cameras to monitor traffic and identify congestion hotspots. He explained that any traffic jam or disruption at intersections is tracked through the screens. Traffic light timings are adjusted to improve traffic flow, particularly in cases of vehicle breakdowns or accidents, with patrols dispatched immediately to address issues and reduce congestion.
Al-Qattan urged drivers, with the start of the school year, to leave early to avoid road congestion and ensure smooth access to schools, allowing for proper drop-offs. He explained that “today traffic was manageable in some locations, but there was congestion near certain school sites,” adding that “traffic patrols are working hard to ensure smooth traffic flow.”
