Cabinet empowers governors to outline key needs

The decision of the Council of Ministers aims to boost the role of governors in overseeing state policies, development plans, and service quality.

The decision by the Council of Ministers tasks each governor with preparing a study of their governorate’s needs and projects and proposing solutions to effectively meet their responsibilities.

Ministers are directed to collaborate with governors to evaluate requirements and strengthen oversight and service delivery in their regions.

Following its August 20 meeting, the Council of Ministers approved a draft decree amending Decree 81/2014 to enhance the roles of governors. The decision directs ministers to coordinate with governors to assess their needs and ensure the governors’ authority extends effectively over government agencies within their regions, aiming to improve oversight and service delivery, according to Al Rai newspaper.

The decision also assigned each governor to prepare a study of the needs and projects necessary for their governorate and to propose means to fulfill their responsibilities.

Governors are to coordinate with ministers to determine the facilities and services required for each governorate, as well as to gather and assess citizen feedback. These needs and suggestions must be submitted to the minister responsible for governorates and the relevant minister, who will review and take the necessary measures for implementation.

The decision of the Council of Ministers aims to enhance the competencies of governors, enabling them to oversee the implementation of state policies, monitor development plans, and improve the quality of services provided to residents across all governorates.
