Kuwait calls for unconditional respect for International Court rulings

Kuwait has stressed the importance of respecting the rulings of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and fulfilling international legal obligations, calling for the consistent application of international law without selectivity or double standards to strengthen the credibility of the international system and uphold the principles of justice.
The position was outlined by Kuwait’s diplomatic attaché to the United Nations General Assembly during discussions on Item 72 concerning the report of the International Court of Justice. Al-Saber said the Court, as the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, plays a central role in resolving legal disputes between states and issuing advisory opinions that reinforce the rule of law and promote the peaceful settlement of disputes.
She emphasized that the value of international justice lies not only in issuing judgments and advisory opinions but also in respecting them and fulfilling the legal obligations arising from them. Addressing the Palestinian issue, she highlighted the importance of the Court’s recommendations concerning Israeli practices in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly its July 2024 advisory opinion, which affirmed the illegality of Israel’s continued presence in the territories.
Al-Saber also welcomed the Court’s October 2025 advisory opinion on Israel’s obligations towards the United Nations and international organizations operating in the occupied Palestinian territories. These obligations include facilitating humanitarian assistance and cooperating with UN agencies, particularly the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
She reaffirmed Kuwait’s support for the ICJ and efforts to strengthen its standing, ensure respect for its rulings and advisory opinions, and uphold international law as a foundation for a more just and stable international order.
