Kuwait Arrests 27 Suspects Over Forged Expiry Dates on Imported Fish

Kuwait’s General Department of Criminal Investigation has arrested 27 suspects accused of tampering with the expiry dates of imported fish, as part of ongoing efforts to combat commercial fraud and protect consumers.
The arrests were made by the Department’s Anti-Fraud and Counterfeiting Division following investigations that uncovered the suspects’ involvement in altering production and expiry dates on imported fish boxes.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the suspects allegedly used counterfeit labels bearing false expiry dates to extend the products’ validity periods before selling them to restaurants, companies and commercial outlets.
Following authorization from the Public Prosecution, security teams raided the locations linked to the suspects and arrested them. Officers seized 16 refrigerated transport vehicles carrying 894 boxes of imported fish whose expiry dates had been tampered with. Equipment used to prepare and print counterfeit labels was also confiscated.
Investigations further revealed that the suspects had changed the expiry dates in coordination with a printing company. Authorities also identified two other premises linked to the case, both reportedly registered as vacant commercial addresses with no actual business activity.
The suspects and seized items have been referred to the competent authorities for the necessary legal action.
