Social Affairs Ministry stops annual support to 42 public benefit associations
The Ministry of Social Affairs has stopped disbursing financial support to trade unions and public benefit associations under its supervision, in implementation of Cabinet Resolution No. 906 canceling government support for these organizations.
Al-Jarida daily quoting sources said, the Development and Social Welfare Sector has halted subsidies to around 42 associations, which had received approximately 1.1 million dinars annually. The ministry will also not disburse money previously allocated to some associations under the “increasing trusts” item for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 fiscal years.
These funds will instead be returned to the State Treasury following the Cabinet decision. The sources said the Ministry of Finance had repeatedly asked the Ministry of Social Affairs to provide the executive regulations and Cabinet decisions establishing each association’s entitlement to financial support. However, no decision or executive regulation specifying such entitlement for any association was found.
Annual subsidies had previously been disbursed after the end of each association’s fiscal year, following its regular general assembly and approval of its reports.
