Uzbekistan marks 35th independence anniversary, eyes broader economic partnership with Kuwait

The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Kuwait marked the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence with a reception highlighting the longstanding ties between the two countries and Uzbekistan’s interest in expanding economic and investment cooperation with Kuwait.

The reception was attended by Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Acting Minister of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of the Kuwait Investment Authority Abdulaziz Al-Marzouq, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Saudi Ambassador to Kuwait Prince Sultan bin Saad bin Khalid Al Saud, as well as ambassadors, diplomats, government officials and prominent personalities.

Uzbek Ambassador to Kuwait H.E Ayub Khan Younusov said Uzbekistan is seeking to broaden bilateral cooperation in economic and investment activities, tourism and technology, building on the longstanding relationship between the two countries.

The celebration highlighted growing people-to-people and tourism links. Younusov noted that the visa-free arrangement allowing Kuwaiti citizens to stay in Uzbekistan for up to 30 days has created additional opportunities for tourism and closer contact between the two peoples.

He invited Kuwaiti visitors to discover Uzbekistan’s historic destinations, including Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva, as well as other attractions across the country. Younusov also expressed appreciation for Kuwait’s support for peace, stability and dialogue, and thanked the Kuwaiti government for its care and support for the Uzbek community living and working in Kuwait.

Reflecting on Uzbekistan’s independence, the ambassador said August 31, 1991, marked a defining moment for the Uzbek people and laid the foundation for building an independent state, strengthening national identity and developing state institutions.

Ambassador Younusov said Kuwait holds a special place in Uzbekistan’s history, noting that Kuwait was among the first countries to recognize Uzbekistan’s independence in December 1991. He described the bilateral relationship as one based on friendship, mutual respect and shared interests.

The Uzbekistan envoy highlighted the contribution of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) to Uzbekistan’s development, particularly through projects in water, infrastructure and healthcare. He said the projects represent an important element of the development partnership between the two countries and are highly valued by the Uzbek government and people.

He said Uzbekistan’s partnership with Kuwait has developed steadily since independence and expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would continue to expand, with economic cooperation, investment, tourism and technology providing key avenues for future engagement.
