US President Donald Trump has denied reports that he offered Iran sanctions relief and access to frozen funds in return for Tehran scaling back its uranium enrichment programme. In a post on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday, Trump rejected an Axios report that he had offered sanctions relief and frozen Iranian assets, calling the report untrue and demanding its immediate withdrawal.
Trump had said on Saturday that he rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the “vital maritime corridor” of the Strait of Hormuz for seven days in exchange for lifting US sanctions, including an asset freeze. The proposal was made by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi at the United Nations General Assembly on Friday. Trump said Iran had made the proposal because it was “losing so badly.”
