Kuwait today launched the second round of the 2025 XCAT World Powerboat Championship under the patronage of the Minister of Information and Culture and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi.

The competition, which runs until the 22nd of November, features Kuwait’s participation through the powerboat “Mutheer 17” led by Kuwaiti champion Abdulatif Al-Omani, alongside Khaled Karam and Bader Al-Dousari, as well as competitors from 12 other countries, under the supervision of the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM).

This hosting comes under the auspices of the Higher Committee for International Events, chaired by Minister Al-Mutairi, and through the efforts of Kuwait Sea Sports Club, which has continued since its establishment in 1963 to develop marine sports and preserve Kuwait’s maritime heritage.

The championship is part of a national strategy aimed at positioning Kuwait as a global sports hub by hosting major sporting events and empowering youth. Kuwait is also preparing to host major upcoming competitions, including the French Super Cup in January 2026 and the Asian Handball Championship, reflecting a clear national vision to consolidate its regional sports presence.
In a gesture reflecting Kuwait’s warm hospitality, the Honorary President of the Kuwait Sea Sports Club, Sheikh Mubarak Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, hosted the international delegations at the White Palace.
He welcomed guests, emphasizing that Kuwait’s hosting of the championship is “a great honor and a historic event that reflects Kuwait leadership’s commitment to marine sports, and the determination of Kuwaiti youth to strengthen their presence in this field.”
He also praised the support and confidence of the international federation, affirming Kuwait’s continued dedication to nurturing powerboat racing and ensuring its success.
The ceremony included the exchange of commemorative shields and the honoring of several figures, including champion Abdulatif Al-Omani and the late Sheikh Khalid Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah, one of the most prominent pioneers of powerboat racing in Kuwait.
