The Embassy of India in Kuwait Marked “Vishwa Hindi Diwas” with Cultural Performances and Student Participation

The Embassy of India in Kuwait marked “Vishwa Hindi Diwas” (World Hindi Day) on 10 January with a vibrant celebration at the Embassy Auditorium, highlighting the growing global footprint of the Hindi language and its cultural resonance in Kuwait. The event drew participation from more than 350 attendees, including faculty members and students from all 25 Indian CBSE schools in Kuwait, as well as friends of India with a special interest in Hindi. The strong turnout reflected Kuwait’s close engagement with Indian culture, supported by an Indian diaspora of over one million people residing in the country.

In the lead-up to World Hindi Day, the Embassy organized Hindi recitation competitions across three age-group categories for students from the 25 CBSE schools. The competition winners were invited to perform at the Embassy Auditorium as part of the main celebrations. Faculty members also took part in the programme, presenting well-received and expressive renditions of Hindi poetry, adding depth and diversity to the cultural showcase.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador of India to Kuwait, Mrs. Paramita Tripathi, referred to the message of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on the occasion and expressed her appreciation to all participants for their enthusiastic involvement in the World Hindi Day celebrations. Ambassador Tripathi presented awards to the winners of the Hindi Recitation Competition and also honoured four Kuwaiti nationals for their knowledge of and interest in the Hindi language. The honourees were: Mr. Mubarak Rashed Al-Azmi (Singer), Mr. Saad Dhaher Saadoun Al-Rasheedi (Former National Guard Officer), Ms. Eman Hussain Ali Alkout (Member of the Chess Federation, Kuwait), and Mr. Salah A. M. Khalaf (Business).

World Hindi Day is observed annually on 10 January to promote the Hindi language and to raise awareness of its cultural and historical significance. Spoken by millions across the world, Hindi occupies an important place not only within India but also internationally, supported by a vast and active global diaspora.

The Embassy of India in Kuwait has played a sustained role in promoting Hindi through year-round initiatives, including competitions, workshops, and cultural programmes. These efforts have contributed to fostering a deeper appreciation of the language among both the Indian diaspora and members of the local community, reinforcing Hindi’s role as a bridge of cultural connection between India and Kuwait.
