Why Eating More Can Actually Help You Lose Weight

Ask Mira : Eating Right to Live Happy & Healthy

For years, we have been told that eating less is the key to losing weight. As a result most women today are not overeating, they are actually undereating.

Skipping meals, drinking coffee, or chewing gum instead of the main meals, or having very small portions, all of this sends one message to your body—slow down the metabolism; store fat.

This is why so many women feel stuck. They eat less than ever but still cannot lose weight, and sometimes even gain weight. And this is exactly where the reverse diet comes in.

Reverse dieting is a simple method where you gradually increase your food intake to bring your metabolism back to normal. Not overeating, not binging on food, just giving your body enough fuel to feel safe and work properly again.

When you give your body a little more food, slowly and consistently, it begins to burn more energy, digest better, reduce cravings, stabilize hormones, and release stored fat.

So, yes, eating more can help you lose weight, especially when your metabolism has been slowed down by years of dieting. And, starting a reverse diet is quite simple, you do not have to make any significant changes. The mantra is to start small.

Add a little extra calories to your daily meals, around 80–120 extra calories. Maybe a piece of fruit, a spoon of nut butter, a bit more rice, or a yogurt.

  • Eat consistently. Your body loves and needs routine.
  • Do not fear carbs, they give life to your metabolism.
  • Focus on real meals, not snacks.
  • Notice how your body responds: more energy, better mood, fewer cravings.

Most women start feeling the difference in just two to three weeks, and many begin losing weight once their metabolism wakes up. Remember, your body does not want to store fat. It wants balance and nourishment. And the answer is not by eating less; it is eating better and eating a little bit more.
